Description:

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Golden Field
Office (GO) is seeking
applications for cost-shared research and development of technologies which

will reduce energy consumption, reduce environmental impacts and enhance
economic competitiveness of the domestic aluminum industry. The research
is to
address research priorities identified by the aluminum industry in the
Aluminum
Industry Technology Roadmap and the Inert Anode Roadmap, (available at the
following URL: http://www.oit.doe.gov/aluminum/visions.shtml.) Potential
benefits of the research must be realized in manufacturing processes, not
in
end-use applications. Approximately $6,500,000 in fiscal year 2005
federal
funds is estimated to be available to fund the first year of selected
research
efforts. DOE anticipates making four to ten awards each with a duration of

four years or less. DOE anticipates these Awards will include one larger
award
up to approximately $3,000,000, targeting long-term research and
development
needed in the primary production area as identified in Exhibit 2-3 of the
Aluminum Industry Technology Roadmap, and several smaller awards totaling
up to
approximately $3,500,000 for all other areas identified in the roadmap.
The
cooperative agreements will be awarded in accordance with DOE Financial
Assistance regulations, Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, 10 CFR

600. Award of a cooperative agreement under this Funding Opportunity
Announcement does not commit the Government to fund any follow-on research.

Successful applicants will be required to submit quarterly and final
reports to
DOE.

Access link. The Golden Home Page also provides instructions on

and submitting applications in IIPS. The Announcement can also be obtained

Contracting Activity and selecting the Golden Field Office folder. DOE
will
not issue paper copies of the announcement.
